Vibrant Madhubani Paintings
$99.00
Original Madhubani paintings from the Mithila region of Bihar — the wall-painting tradition that has passed from mother to daughter for more than two thousand years, now brought onto handmade paper for collectors' walls. Each piece is drawn freehand: a fine bamboo nib outlines every figure in black, then the space is filled with dense hatching, dots and the double-line borders that never leave an empty gap. The subjects come straight from the tradition — the Tree of Life heavy with fruit and nesting birds, Radha and Krishna under flowering vines, Goddess Durga riding her tiger, dancing village women with their unmistakable fish-shaped eyes, and lotus-and-fish mandalas that stand for fertility and prosperity. Colours are mixed the old way from natural and mineral sources — turmeric yellow, kajal black, indigo blue, red ochre, leaf green — which gives Madhubani its saturated, glowing surface. Every painting is signed by the artisan and arrives unframed and flat-packed between acid-free sheets, ready for your own frame or mount. These are one-of-a-kind works: the motif, palette and size of the piece you receive will be close to the photographs but never identical. That is the point.
