A cross body bag that carries a 3,000-year-old story on its face. Painted entirely by hand in the Madhubani tradition of Mithila, Bihar, the front panel holds a plump folk bird resting among lotus buds, leaves and a border of open blossoms — every line drawn freehand with a fine nib, then filled with warm turmeric, terracotta, indigo and leaf green. The body is woven natural jute, finished with a crimson piped edge that frames the artwork like a canvas. Three zip compartments — a slim front pocket for cards, a mid pocket for a phone, and a full-width main zip — keep the day organised, while the adjustable jute webbing strap moves easily from shoulder to cross body. Because each bag is painted individually by a woman artisan working from her own home, no two are identical. Small differences in the curve of a petal or the tilt of the bird's beak are the signature of a human hand, not a printer. Sealed with a protective finish so the colours stay bright through everyday use, and shipped plastic-free.
